Prone to cause a stir with his opinion - Thilo Sarrazin (photo:WikimediaCommons)
To speak or not to speak.
SPD (social democrat)-politician
Thilo Sarrazin remains the sore spot for his political party as well as the
executive board of the Bundesbank (German Federal Reserve Bank). For quite some time, Sarrazin's abrasive remarks about Muslims and integration have again and again
infuriated immigrants and Germans alike..Now, the extremely outspoken
politician and chairman of the German Federal bank has published his book Deutschland
schafft sich ab (loosely translated: "How Germany abolishes itself") and
once again: the debate about what may and may not be said out loud enters the stage. And
while Sarrazin feels he is in the right and keeps pointing to his constitutional
right of freedom of speech , the SPD's executive committee and the executive board of the
Bundesbank beg to differ. Sarrazin has now been summoned to a meeting in Frankfurt to
discuss his future as chairperson of the bank. SPD-politicians are currently
discussing Sarrazin's expulsion from the (left-of-centre) SPD.
